Grounding Tea Ceremony

I did a great grounding ceremony today that apparently Tarchan Hearn teaches ( I couldn't find a reference online) where just as with the raisin activity in the blog above (thank you Permaculture Tales!) you do the same with a cup of tea; engage all of the senses and really take your time to take each sip.....then… Continue reading Grounding Tea Ceremony

Not So Mindful Monday!!

I was walking along with my kids one Monday evening and with a jolt out of my inner ramblings I realised the river had flowed the day before!!    We had celebrated the rain and hoped the river would flow.....but somehow we had ended up relishing a wet, cool day at home and not gone anywhere!… Continue reading Not So Mindful Monday!!

Mindful Breathing really helped me get through a very intense weekend with the extended family, thank you for these wise words!  I am loving reading Thich Nhat Hahn’s book FEAR (that I found at the airport bookshop on the weekend) with such practical strategies on how to be mindful and honour and reassure ourselves around our fears. 🙂

sitting2Our breathing is a stable solid ground that we can take refuge in. Regardless of our internal weather- our thoughts, emotions and perceptions- our breathing is always with us like a faithful friend. Whenever we feel carried away, or sunken in a deep emotion, or scattered in worries and projects, we return to our breathing to collect and anchor our mind. We feel the flow of air coming in and going out of our nose. We feel how light and natural, how calm and peaceful our breathing functions. At any time, we can return to this peaceful source of life.

cat sunlight2It is very important that we re-learn the art of resting and relaxing. Not only does it help prevent the onset of many illnesses that develop through chronic tension and worrying; it allows us to clear our minds, focus and find creative solutions to problems. We will be more successful in all our endeavors if we can let go of the habit of running all the time, and take little pauses to relax and re-center ourselves. And we’ll also have a lot more joy in living.

Mindful Making

Pots Pinched With Love. Each one of these pots is made from the same bit of paper clay and rolled into a small table tennis ball size before being pinched with love and care as a gift to a loved one!  I let go of the outcome, embrace the imperfection and enjoy the process of… Continue reading Mindful Making

Mindful Swimming

Phew! 36 degrees in the desert and by some weird quirk of fate NO air conditioning working at home or work!  With questions spinning in my head of 'How can that be? and What does it mean? and How will we  cope?' I head to the 50 m pool. Aaaaahhhhh the beautiful cool water, the lovely… Continue reading Mindful Swimming

Mindful Compassion For Ourselves

Have you ever found that you mindfully tune into the tension in your body (for me: neck and shoulders) and then NOT so mindfully beat yourself up about it?  I do!  I attempt to ‘let it go’ and then proceed to subtly (or not so subtly) put more effort and more tension into getting rid… Continue reading Mindful Compassion For Ourselves

5 Mindful Minutes

This mindful blogging is working!  I am definitely feeling more aware and more mindful!   It’s so nice to know there are many others out there exploring the same thing too!  Thank you! In the past 3 months when I was immersed in a new job and long hours all my resolutions to meditate went out… Continue reading 5 Mindful Minutes
