What if we were to treat the parts of ourselves we often push away, as wild animals? Could we greet them with curiousity, awe, stillness, presence….pausing to get to know them? This was a prompt from my mindfulness teacher, Nique Murch, in the course I’m doing ‘Journalling Your Wild Parts’ with Openground (highly recommend!)…and the question has resonated with me deeply! In just the last couple of weeks I’ve come across these creatures in the wild (see pics) and I’ve been struck with awe, curiousity, stillness, presence, calm….waiting, getting to know them, seeing if they have a ‘message’ for me (I wish I had a photo of the adventurous kangaroo down at the beach this morning! Both he and I were shocked to meet each other!)…and then in meditation and journalling I’ve been working on greeting my own vulnerable or protective parts as creatures in the wild, stopping still to greet them with curiousity, awe and presence, seeing if they have a message for me…seeing if they are ready to work with my Core Self…If you are interested in finding out more about exploring your parts and Core Self Energy I’m embarking on a journey exploring parts that get in the way of Wholehearted Living (as outlined in Brene Browns book Gifts of Imperfection) in a series of 6 weekly workshops starting in May. Please read the quotes (slide across) and read more in my latest blog (link in bio) https://deepheartwisdom.com/2023/03/29/deep-parts-wisdom/ or message me for more info if you’re keen to know more. Maybe I’ll see you there ? 😊🙏🏼 Sara PS In the meantime enjoy those wild creatures out there 😂😊🐬 #ifs #ifstherapy #selfenergy #partswork #counsellingportmacquarie
Do you ever feel like your thoughts are like this (pic 1) or like this (pic 2)….seeing these crab trails on the beach got me thinking imagine if we could plot out our trails of thinking during the day? What would your trails look like today? Compared to yesterday? Or tomorrow? I’ve been diving in deep to Internal Family Systems, this ancient/universal idea that we are made of many parts, and the Self/Soul/Essence that never changes… imagine if the little crab hole represents your Centred Self and each of the trails represent the different ways we get caught up in parts during the day, the anxious part, shamed part, angry part, victim part, numbing part….yet there is a returning to the Centred Self in small moments, such as sunrise, swimming in the ocean, hugs, creating, waking up! Jeff Foster writes about Self and Parts so beautifully in his poem (pic 3) from his beautiful book (pic 4). So which part are you in right now? And what’s one small return to Self you can do in this moment? Is it a breath, hand on heart, stretch, look up into the sky? What works for you? May we all enjoy this return to Self, no matter how fleeting, before the next trail of parts, and May we all connect with our parts with curiousity and compassion 🤗💖 #ifs #ifstherapy #ifshealing #jefffoster #selfenergy #selfleadership #counsellingportmacquarie
Have you ever had that feeling where you feel like you’re in fog, stuck, not knowing and then something or a combination of things brings clarity and you know your next right Self-led step forward… that happened to me last weekend, such a beautiful feeling…then during the week as I stood on the headland I had fog on one side and blue skies on the other, I love how Mother Nature in our external world often reflects back to us our internal world!! So what has brought you clarity in the past? I love how Pema Chodron describes our true Self/essence/spirit has being wide open sky, yet so often we forget that and we get caught in the clouds of our emotions and thoughts! What helps you reconnect with the wide open sky of your wise Self? For me definitely a road trip and a retreat in the forest, with some soulitude time helps!! 🙏🏼💖 To read more: Link in bio, for latest blog on Internal Family Systems and why I’m so excited about it for my own Self-led healing and to support others to do their own Self-led healing. #ifs #internalfamilysystems #selfledhealing #selfhealing #pemachodron
Have you ever felt really calm and zen after an early morning swim, walk or meditation yet a family member says or does that one thing and you feel overtaken with irritation / rage / worry / fear or despair as if you were a completely different person than who you were 5 minutes ago? I have, daily!! I LOVE how Internal Family Systems (IFS) explains this human phenomenon...I share more about my understanding of IFS here, why I think it's so great and my favourite IFS podcasts (so far!!) I also love how Alanis Morissette shares her experience of IFS in the front of No Bad Parts by Richard Schwartz. Who is your go to person who soothes your nervous system? And how do they do this best? Is it soothing words, soothing touch, soothing movement, soothing time together where their calm nervous system calms your mind, heart, body? So important to know how to self soothe but even more important is to have someone to co- soothe! I’m so grateful to my partner for all his soothing hugs and to friends for their soothing words, thank you 🙏🏼💖 May you know how appreciated you are today ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you to @somaticexperiencingint for the repost! #soothing #selfsoothing #cosoothing
Today deeply acknowledging and honouring this beautiful Birpai Country that I live in and our First Nation Elders and Custodians of this land- always was and always will be- I have so much to learn about how to care for this land so the land can care for me- I am so grateful to be able to listen deeply to this land, to be healed and held by her, guided by her and it feels vital that we, our whole community, listen more deeply to traditional owners for their knowledge and wisdom of how to care for this land so this land can care for us.
